Sunday, May 21st, on the way home from church, we saw what a gorgeous day it was and we wanted to go for a sail. We ate a quick lunch and then I took a nap while Jon and Jonathan prepared a picnic dinner and got the boat ready.

Saturday, Jon bought me a beautiful little azalea bush which we put in a big pot.

Sunday morning, he served me breakfast in bed - pear slices arranged in a heart shape around scrambled eggs.

On Sunday, I went to a baby shower and Jon and Jonathan went out to lunch with our pastoral intern. Then they took me home so I could get a nap, and headed out to the annual Texas Independence Day party at the Regans'. (TID is really in March, but the party was delayed.)

We don't really know what happened, but we hadn't seen any robins at the nest for a while. Three weeks after Easter, I became suspicious, and now for sure these eggs won't hatch. We're going to clean up the whole window area and hopefully next year we will have successful robin hatching.

Our first attempt at keeping a live Christmas tree live was a dismal failure, for two main reasons. One, we didn't take it down until April or some other such long time. Two, I misunderstood the instructions about misting the tree. What you are supposed to do is mist the branches to keep them hydrated. However, I thought you were supposed to mist the rootball. So this poor tree never had enough water from the start.

After two and a half years of sleeping in a family bed, it is surely ingrained in me. When our friends' daughter needed to spend the night with us when her baby brother was being born, I couldn't bear the thought of putting her in another room.

Lo and behold, robins' eggs appeared in the nest this very Easter morning! There are three. Jon took a picture which will be up sometime...

Last night we had a spectacular and very close thunderstorm roll though. The lightning actually struck a transformer down the street, cutting our power at around 10:30.

On Saturday morning, April 1st, I saw the mother robin checking out the nest over our door. I put up a blanket over the window (since I never got to finding a one-way glass) so our comings and goings would not disturb the nesting. There are no eggs yet, and I have not seen her again. I sincerely hope that my seeing her that morning did not dissuade her from picking that spot for her nest this year.

A woman I know has been having breastfeeding troubles with her three month old. She firmly believes in the superiority of breastmilk and nursing, and so has persisted through the discouragement (implicit and from other people, including pediatrician) and is using a lactation supplementer instead of bottles. She used donated breast milk in it until she ran out and now is using formula in it. As we talked this morning, I volunteered to pump some extra so that her baby can have real breastmilk.

It has been many moons since a fish update. The last blog entry about it was October 2004, but there might be a newsletter that has a more recent update. If not this poor catfish of ours was lonely for a longer time than I thought.

I was talking with a friend the other day about grandmothers knitting and sweaters they give for Christmas. Her comment was, "I loved my grandma, but those things were hideous." Then I related how I always loved the things my grandma knitted for me. I was just thinking about it again recently. I even liked the pink sweater she made, and the tomboy in me normally didn't like pink. Maybe she was just more savvy about what little girls liked then. She made my sister and me these really neat sweatervests that had animals worked in - the face of the animal on the front, with button eyes, and the tail on the back, with little cat tails hanging out, or bunny rabbit cottontails. They were great. Yay for Grandma!

Christmas Eve, we went to a church family's party and then had a candlelight service at church. Christmas Day, there was no service (we meet in a school and they didn't want to make the janitor work on Christmas) so we had the day at home.

I have proved it to myself. Eating too much sugar drains my energy, making me tired and lethargic. On the positive side, cutting down on my sugar consumption gives me energy to last through the day!
